Barnsley Hospital Charity supports care that goes above and beyond, and the Heart Awards are held to recognise and celebrate this dedication from both staff and volunteers for all the hard work they do every year.
I got involved because Carole Wickham of Wickham & Taylor who are dressing the venue (Holiday Inn Barnsley) have met me on several occasions through wedding fairs and wondered whether I’d be interested in photographing the night.
Well after years of care from Barnsley Hospital for my parents as well as repairing my broken bones and last year removing my appendix, it only seemed fair that I gave back somehow! So to hear the great stories of people going above and beyond the call of duty is truly inspiring and I want to say thank you.
While out in Barcelona for the bridal fashion shoot with Kate Fearnley I took the opportunity to spend a day cramming as much sight-seeing in as I could. I’d always wanted to visit Gaudi’s amazing architectural wonders and finally had the chance, so I’d like to share them with you.
Last year I was selected to take part in the Royal Photographic Society’s International Print Exhibition 157
The final 100 images selected from over 6500 entries from 72 different countries have been touring the UK since last year’s launch at the Greenwich Heritage Centre and this month sees the turn of the Royal Albert Hall to play host.
I couldn’t miss the opportunity to go and see my work hanging in such a beautiful, prestigious building. Although a far cry from my wedding portfolio I love getting my teeth into projects which help me explore different aspects of life.
The photo itself was a result of me spending some time at Sheffield Castle Market before it was due to be moved to its new location.
About the Royal Photographic Society International Print Exhibition
“The annual RPS International Print Exhibition has been held almost every year since 1854, and is the longest standing exhibition of its kind in the world. Anyone can enter and everyone has an equal chance of their work being selected. Entry for the 2014 Exhibition (157th) closed on 18 March and a call for entries to the next exhibition will be announced in December.
From the artistic to documentary, from portraiture to natural history, all styles of photography can be entered for consideration. The selectors, who each year come from differing backgrounds including professional photographers, artists, university lecturers, picture editors and Fellows of The Society, look for work that has not previously been seen in exhibitions. The resulting show is unique in subject and style and showcases the variety of photographic work that is currently being created worldwide.
Having a print in the exhibition gives recognition to photographers just starting out in their careers, provides enthusiasts with real pride and gives professionals exposure of their work. Previous selected International Print Exhibition photographers have included Simon Roberts HonFRPS, Laura Pannack and Julia Fullerton-Batten.”
