Whilst preparing for Alex and Jonathan’s wedding I had a phone call from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, who I’d helped last Christmas when they made another little boy’s wish come true of meeting Santa. Their charity grants magical wishes to enrich the lives of young people and children fighting life-threatening conditions. This time it was Henry’s turn to have his wish granted.
A massive fan of all things Star Wars, his parents wanted to get the family and friends together for him, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation had been very busy organising a petting zoo, gifts from the Disney Store, a fabulous cake, outdoor daytime fireworks and even a group of Star Wars Characters to make an appearance! Wow!
Of course, not being one who “The Force” is particularly strong with I can’t save Galaxies or rescue princesses but I can take photos, so I strapped on my DSLR’s and captured the day for them. Although when the petting zoo brought out the tarantula I put my long lens on and kept my distance haha! The hairy creatures included a bunny and a chincilla, but the hairiest creature of all was to come later – a Wookie!!!! Who quite frankly had a lot to say, and must have been very hot in the sunshine – it’s hard work being a Wookie.
The adults seemed to have as much fun as the children, and Henry’s parents’ love and attention to their beautiful son was heartwarming to see, and to see so many natural smiles made me one very happy and fortunate photographer.
