Shire Horse Society National Show 2018

Lucky enough to get a press pass to the Shire Horse Show down in Stafford, I spent a day behind the scenes with the gentle giants, and the small army of people looking after them and getting them show ready.

The Shire Horse Society runs a “Save Our Shires” campaign, to raise awareness of the threat to the Shire as a breed. Centuries of carrying man into war, working the land (my Grandad George was one of those farmers who used Shires) and moving goods around the country, technology has left them behind. The Shire Horse Society (who’s patron is Her Majesty The Queen, no less) are working to keep the breed alive.

Wandering around capturing the story of the day, everyone involved was so friendly, especially the horses! It was great to see how international the passion for the breed is as well, with competitors venturing from all over.
